I’m really excited to heat that a hiking activity is going to be held near the Bund on the Labor Day holiday. However, there may be further improvement of the scheme you’ve posted on the campus website, as I’d like to point out.
First of all, the hike needs to be planned in more detail as the information released online appears to be too general. As participants, we need to know how long the hike will last. Also, we are willing to have a clearer picture of security precautions and necessary medical support for the activity. After all, the scheme should be comprehensive and thoughtful enough to ensure the success of the activity. Only by clarifying these details, are you likely to attract more attention from the students. What’s more, I suggest the hike be more suited to the theme “Discover Shanghai” through additional activities. Upon arrival at the Bund, I propose an introduction of the architecture on both sides of the Huangpu River. By appreciating different artistic styles of the buildings, we can gain a deeper insight into the authentic Shanghai culture mixed with exotic flavor. Thus, the experience may well be unforgettable one, because it not only makes us move, but also enables us to discover the scenic beauty of Shanghai, which will well achieve the purpose of organizing the activity.
All in all, if the hike is organized in more detail and in a more supportive way, it is sure to succeed. I hope that my voice above can be heard and considered and wish the activity a great success.

Recently I have conducted a survey about “whether parents are proud of their children” in my school. The result shows that 80% of parents are proud of their children while only 60% of children hold the same opinion. According to the survey, we can conclude that the number of parents who approved the idea is 20% more than of children.
There seems to be two causes as we tried to figure out what led to this subtle difference. First, conservative Chinese parents are never accustomed to conveying directly how much they are proud of their children. This tendency to conceal feelings hardly helps children develop a strong sense of self-confidence. Second, the current education system excessively emphasizes the value of academic performance, thus forcing children to extensively believe that only by achieving excellent scores can they make their parents proud. This bias unfairly undermines the significance of talents for art and sports, which easily frustrates children and renders them more likely to underestimate themselves.
Without the genuine encouragement from parents and the reversal of exam-oriented educational methods, a kid would never end up with a positive grown-up.

On hearing the news that the annual Campus Reading Festival is to be held and an advertising picture for the brochure is open to be recommended, I can’t wait to write to you, offering my humble opinion. The picture that I want to recommend features three students sitting around a table, reading and discussing pleasantly. From the big smile on their faces, we can tell that they are having great fun.
In the first place, the picture will catch the readers’ eye. Any student who sees the picture will wonder what the three students are discussing about passionately. What’s more, the picture demonstrates what the festival is about. The festival aims to create a platform where students can enjoy the pleasure of sharing opinions about what they have read with peers, which will further their understanding. The value of reading lies not only in enriching our individual’s knowledge but also in inspiring the minds of the youth to share their innermost feelings. Just as the saying goes, “Two heads are better than one”, I believe group reading or discussing is beneficial.
To sum up, the picture will surely remind the students of the pleasure of reading arouse their passion for reading. I sincerely hope that this picture will soon appear in the brochure, spreading the idea to my peer schoolmates during the reading festival.

I’m writing to express some of my opinions towards our school’s English newspaper.
In my point of view, among health, entertainment and culture, I would choose “entertainment” to be the one to be eliminated. Although it’s a necessity for students to get some relaxation, I’m worried that the main news that the entertainment column offers will eventually turn into celebrity gossip, which is neither helpful to the growth of students nor to the development of our school. We are already living in a world that is crammed with useless information, and there’s no need to add some more. The main focus of the newspaper is supposed to be placed on the students—not Brad Pitt’s new movie.
As for the column to be added, I highly recommend the “career planning”. I know that right now a large number of students still have absolutely no idea about what they truly want to become in the future, so it’s quite urgent and necessary to give students basic understanding of what different kinds of jobs are like and what kinds of qualities are required for different jobs. This may help students gain a better understanding of their strengths and weakness and thus figure out their goals. To me, it’s much more meaningful than “fashion” or “readers’ feedback”.
All mentioned above can be turned into reality with your appreciation and permission. I’m looking forward to your favorable reply and a better school newspaper.

As far as I am concerned, compared with community library, the museum may be a better choice for such a professional exhibition. To begin with, while I admit that the library may be more convenient since we can go there easily, museum is sure to improve the level of exhibition. With its better condition and the history atmosphere it provides, we’ll enjoy a more comfortable environment and have a further understanding of those paintings. What’s more, for the sake of protection, the museum can protect those fragile works from being damaged. From my point of view, it is the museum that has a magic power to persuade us to behave ourselves, while the library instead cannot do that.
In spite of its convenience, I believe that it is worthwhile to go to the museum to appreciate these paintings. Thanks for taking time to read my letter. I will appreciate it if you will take my suggestion into consideration.

  Today, I paid a visit to a primary school where a girl named Amy studies to observe 2 art lessons. So excited was Amy that she applied the colors to her feet, using them as paint brushes. On the contrary, in the other class, the teacher just instructed them to copy the model painting. Despite the fact that Amy also painted her pictures earnestly, I discovered that she wasn’t involved in the painting as passionately. I maintain it was the creativity and imagination that made the striking difference between the 2 classes.
    Firstly, what impressed me most was Amy’s sweet smile in the first class. It goes without saying that the happiness from one’s creation and imagination will allow him to receive the real sense of achievement and satisfaction from his work. Only when we feel pleased with our works can we create something brilliant.
    Simultaneously, equipped with innovation spirit, we will be more likely to develop our potential abilities. Given that every one of us say the same words or do the same things, our country will be destined to become less dynamic and prosperous. However, it is a fair bet that more amazing contributions will be achieved with our initiative.
     As what has been discussed above, I firmly hold the belief that creativity and imagination are two invaluable qualities which success feeds on. Therefore, I will go to any length to cultivate my creativity and imagination to make greater contributions to my country.

Dear Sir/Madam,
Word came that the International Children Funds Association intends to aid middle school students financially in launching programs aiming to help children in underdeveloped areas. Now, I would like to apply for one. I’m Li Ming, a student from Shanghai Mingqi Middle School. I’m always keen on doing voluntary work and only too willing to do my part for the needy. Young as I am, I’ve already organized scores of activities which aim at helping the poor and the old in our community.
My voluntary project is that I, together with some of my classmates, will volunteer to teach those poor kids this summer. Obtaining knowledge is a desirable way for them to change their life paths. As far as I know, qualified teachers are severely needed in those areas. Though not qualified, I still hold that I’m capable of extending some basic knowledge and study techniques to them after 12 years of efforts in study. I will also appeal to my classmates to join me to give lessons to them. What’s more, I intend to send some classics and stationery to them. They need to read more to broaden their horizons and good tools will be beneficial to enhance their studies.
As for money, it will be totally spent for the children. The classics and stationery will take up the major part, about 1,500 yuan. The rest 500 yuan will go to some necessary teaching aids and materials to ensure efficient teaching.
As a girl who has crossed the line to be an adult, I really want to do more for our society and I’m eager for your support.
